Democracy?

So today i learned about Meritocracy. For those of you who does not know a meritocracy is a form of goverment were jobs, goverment positions, responsabilities ect... are appointed by the ability of the individual rather than by wealth (plutocracy), family connections (nepotism), class privilege (oligarchy), cronyism,tenurocracy (or based in seniority), popularity (as in democracy) or other historical determinants of social position and political power. 

This form of goverment brought my attention. 

Now that i look at democracy, it certainly doent look as good as meritocracy. Perhaps my understanding of how democracy truly works is limited seeing that the only indepth dempcracy i have seen was at my middle school student goverment, so based on this i shall make my arguments.

The president, lets called her P, of the elections won beacuse she was the "pretiest, most popular" girl in school. She promised several things which COULD be achieve but were never made beacuse this girl had the brain of a bubblegum. 

One candidate was another girl, lets called her L, was one of the smartes students of that year. L was organized, smart, and hard working. But she was also shy and almost never went to parties or dances or any of the sort. So she lost. P won and brought one of the lamest years my school had seen, even teachers admitted that to me at the end of the year. 

If my school goverment had been bu abilities and not by popularity then perhaps the year would have been better.

I dont know much about the world leaders and their abilities to do their job, however after reading several pages what seems to be the repeating pattern is that the politicians get their job based on the popularity of their promises and in the end they do the minimal amount of them.

So i think (this is my personal opinion (Opinions are not facts (therefoe i cannot be right or wrong :P))) that meritocracy is a much better gobermental system.
